Background: The license fees for many health care professions include a $25 fee that is transferred to the University of Washington (UW) to fund and provide, through the health sciences library, online access to clinical resources, medical journals, decision support tools, and evidence-based reviews. The health care professions that have access to the UW health sciences library including the following: physicians, physician assistants, osteopathic physicians, osteopathic physician assistants, naturopaths, podiatrists, chiropractors, psychologists, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, optometrists, mental health counselors, massage therapists, clinical social workers, midwives, marriage and family therapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and nutritionists, speech-language pathologists, and East Asian medicine practitioners.

Summary of Bill: Additional health care professions are provided access to the UW health sciences library: advanced social workers, independent clinical social workers, independent clinical social worker associates, and marriage and family therapist associates. License fees for these professionals must include an additional $25 fee to be transferred to the UW health sciences library.

Staff Summary of Public Testimony: PRO: This is part of an ongoing effort to provide more health care professions with access to the health sciences library. Marriage and family therapists would like access to the database and they agree to the fee increase. This will help them in meeting their continuing education requirements.
