Background: During the 2015 regular session, the Legislature authorized the Washington State University (WSU) Board of Regents to establish, operate, and maintain a school of medicine.

Elson S. Floyd was named President of WSU in December 2006. He took office as the tenth president of Washington State's land-grant research university on May 21, 2007. Dr. Floyd died of complications from colon cancer June 20, 2015.

Summary of Bill: A school of medicine at WSU will be known as the Elson S. Floyd School of Medicine.
