AN ACT Relating to prior authorization for dental services and supplies in medical assistance programs; and adding a new section to chapter
74.09 RCW.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. A new section is added to chapter 74.09 RCW to read as follows:
(1) The provision of dental services and any related supplies for persons enrolled in medical assistance programs under this chapter may not be subject to a prior authorization requirement if the payment for the service or related supplies is less than half of the usual and customary fee for the service or related supplies.
(2) For the purposes of this section, "usual and customary fee" means the amount charged for a dental service in a geographic area based on the fee usually charged for the same or similar dental service by providers in the area.
