On page 7, at the beginning of line 26 of the striking amendment, strike all material through "used.))" on line 32, and insert "((city)) legislative authority of any city located in that county, with a population of sixty-five thousand or less, or a population of one hundred thirty-five thousand or more, may ((submit an authorizing proposition to the city voters at a special or general election and, if the proposition is approved by a majority of persons voting,)) impose the whole or remainder of the sales and use tax rate in accordance with the terms of this chapter. The rate of tax under this section may not exceed one-tenth of one percent of the selling price in the case of a sales tax, or value of the article used, in the case of a use tax.

(iii) If a county with a population of greater than one million five hundred thousand has not imposed the full tax authorized under (a) of this subsection within three years of October 9, 2015, the legislative authority of any city with a population greater than sixty-five thousand, but less than one hundred thirty-five thousand, and with any portion of such population within that county, may submit an authorizing proposition to the city voters at a special or general election and, if the proposition is approved by a majority of persons voting, impose the whole or remainder of the sales and use tax rate in accordance with the terms of this chapter. The title of each ballot measure must clearly state the purposes for which the proposed sales and use tax will be used."

 

 

EFFECT: Requires a vote of the people to impose the 0.1 percent sales tax for affordable housing for cities between 65,000 and 135,000 people, and any part of such populations within a county over 1.5 million people.
