Background:
The state common school system includes public educational programming for children from kindergarten through twelfth grade. The school year generally begins in September and ends in June. Beginning in the 2008-09 school, the state began phasing in all-day kindergarten classes, starting with schools with a high percentage of low-income families. Full implementation is due in the 2017-18 school year.
Summary of Bill:
September is declared the month of the kindergartener. Every elementary school is encouraged to celebrate the beginning of each kindergartener's life in education.

Fiscal Note: Not requested.
Effective Date: The bill takes effect 90 days after adjournment of the session in which the bill is passed.
