HB 2156 - H AMD 1600

By Representative Walsh

WITHDRAWN 02/16/2026

On page 1, after line 3, insert the following:

"NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature supports the important work of the organized retail crime task force of the attorney general's office. However, it is not the intent of the legislature to grant the attorney general's office original jurisdiction to investigate any crimes. The legislature recognizes that the attorney general's office is not a law enforcement office. The Washington constitution does not vest the attorney general with any common law powers. The attorney general's authority is solely to be the legal adviser of the state officers and to perform those duties prescribed by statute."

Renumber the remaining section consecutively and correct any internal references accordingly.

EFFECT: Acknowledges the important work of the Organized Retail Crime Task Force of the Attorney General's Office. Recognizes the constitutional limits on the Attorney General's Office and specifies that there is no legislative intent to grant the Attorney General's Office original criminal jurisdiction.
