On page 19, line 21 of the striking amendment, after "person" strike "appointed, elected" and insert "being considered for appointment as a sheriff, police chief, or marshal"
On page 19, line 27 of the striking amendment, after "determine" insert "that they meet eligibility requirements and to determine"
On page 22, beginning on line 21 of the striking amendment, after "certification" strike ", the employing agency shall ((certify)) attest to the commission that the agency" and insert "or appointment of a sheriff, police chief, or marshal, the employing agency or appointing authority shall ((certify)) attest to the commission that the agency or appointing authority"
On page 22, beginning on line 27 of the striking amendment, after "to" strike "be suitable for employment as a peace officer ((or)), corrections officer," and insert "have met eligibility requirements and to be suitable for employment as a peace officer or corrections officer, or appointment as a"
| EFFECT: Requires a person being considered for appointment as a sheriff, police chief, or marshal to submit to a background investigation, as required for peace officer certification, to determine that they meet eligibility requirements and to determine the person's suitability for employment, instead of requiring that a person appointed or elected submit to the background investigation required for peace officer certification. Requires that, prior to appointment of a sheriff, police chief, or marshal, the appointing authority attest to the Criminal Justice Training Commission that the appointing authority has received or conducted a completed background investigation and that it was determined that the person met eligibility requirements and was suitable for appointment. |
