AN ACT Relating to preferences for Washington wood and wood products in public construction projects; adding a new section to chapter 39.24 RCW; and creating a new section.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:
NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature finds it both necessary and desirable to respond to the unemployment crisis in the timber and wood products industry. The legislature further finds that an appropriate effort includes ensuring that public funds used for public works projects enhance employment and economic activity in Washington's timber and wood products industry.
NEW SECTION. Sec. 2. A new section is added to chapter 39.24 RCW to read as follows:
All wood or wood products to be incorporated into public works projects shall be substantially produced in Washington. Every contract for public works of the state or a municipality shall provide that all wood or wood products incorporated into the public works project be substantially produced in Washington.
