AN ACT Relating to corrections; creating a new section; and making an appropriation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     (1) The secretary of the department of corrections shall establish as a pilot program a community based rehabilitation facility designed to provide job training and employment counseling through contracts with private enterprises.  The rehabilitation facility shall be a security facility providing a group-living situation for ten to twenty inmates for six to twelve months of training in core industries and employment counseling.

(2) The department of corrections shall use the work release program established pursuant to chapter 72.65 RCW as a model in designing the rehabilitation facility pilot program.

(3) The pilot program shall be subject to the standards established by the corrections standards board.

(4) The secretary of corrections shall evaluate the program and report to the legislature by December 1, 1987.

 

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     To carry out this act, the sum of two hundred fifty thousand dollars, or as much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated to the department of corrections from the general fund for the biennium ending June 30, 1987.
