AN ACT Relating to the national anthem; adding a new section to chapter 1.20 RCW; and prescribing penalties.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 1.20 RCW to read as follows:

          Whenever it is represented at a public gathering that the national anthem is to be performed, the sponsor of the performance shall ensure that the performance conforms to the standard words and music of the national anthem.

          A violation of this section is a misdemeanor.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.     If any provision of this act or its application to any person or circumstance is held invalid, the remainder of the act or the application of the provision to other persons or circumstances is not affected.
