AN ACT Relating to appliance energy efficiency; creating a new section; and declaring an emergency.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     (1) The state energy office shall prepare a report on the advisability of Washington state adopting energy efficiency standards for refrigerators, refrigerator-freezers, freezers, and water heaters.  In the report, the state energy office shall consider the technical feasibility, economic justification, and impact on product availability and quality of standards the energy office finds appropriate to consider.  In preparing the report, the energy office shall review all existing studies and data on appliance energy efficiency and perform any additional studies as necessary.

          (2) The study required by this section is contingent on the receipt of funds by the state energy office from the Bonneville power administration.

          (3) Subject to subsection (2) of this section, the state energy office shall submit its report to the governor and the legislature by January 1, 1987.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.     This act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, and safety, the support of the state government and its existing public institutions, and shall take effect immediately.
