AN ACT Relating to studying school dropout statistics; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     (1) Beginning with the 1986-87 school year, school districts shall be required annually to report dropout rates of ninth through twelfth grade students.

          (2) The superintendent of public instruction shall provide school districts with guidance and assistance to assure uniformity in reporting.  Such guidance and assistance may include training.  The superintendent of public instruction may also impose requirements to assure uniformity in reporting.

          (3) Beginning with the 1991 legislative session, the superintendent of public instruction shall report annually to the legislature on the number of students in the ninth through twelfth grade who drop out of school over a four-year period.  Before 1991, the superintendent of public instruction shall provide cumulative statistics for the available school years, beginning with the 1985-86 school year.
