AS PASSED HOUSE JANUARY 22, 1987

BACKGROUND:

Effective in the fall of 1986, individuals 17 years old or older were required to obtain a state migratory waterfowl stamp in order to hunt migratory waterfowl.  The stamp costs $5.  The stamp must be purchased in addition to a state hunting license, which costs $12, along with a federal duck stamp.

The federal duck stamp costs $5.  Federal law requires every migratory waterfowl hunter 16 years of age or older to buy the duck stamp.

The earliest age when state and federal migratory waterfowl stamps are required conflict by one year.

SUMMARY:

The age when a state migratory waterfowl stamp is required is changed from 17 to 16 to coincide with the age requirements for the federal duck stamp.
