AS PASSED HOUSE APRIL 7, 1987

BACKGROUND:

The Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation (IAC) is scheduled for termination on June 30, 1987.

IAC was created in 1964 to help state and local agencies in Washington acquire and develop outdoor recreation resources.  Toward this end, IAC maintains a comprehensive plan guiding statewide outdoor recreation policies, and allocates federal, state, and other grant-in-aid monies between state and local agency applicants. To date, IAC has allocated grant monies for some 1,800 outdoor recreation projects throughout the state.

The committee has nine members, including the Commissioner of Public Lands, and the directors of the departments of Game and Fisheries, and the Parks and Recreation Commission.

SUMMARY:

The termination date for the Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation (IAC) is changed from June 30, 1987 to June 30, 1988.  The governor must determine by January 1, 1988 whether the IAC should remain a separate agency or be transferred to another state agency.
