BACKGROUND:

 

The Board of Natural Resources establishes policies to insure that the acquisition, management and disposition of all lands and resources within the Department of Natural Resources' (DNR) control are based on sound principles designed to achieve the maximum effective development and use consistent with applicable laws.

 

The board consists of six members:  the governor, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Commissioner of Public Lands, the dean of the College of Forest Resources at the University of Washington, the dean of the College of Agriculture at Washington State University, and a representative of the counties that contain forest board (state) lands.  The governor may have a designee attend and participate in board meetings.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Superintendent of Public Instruction may select a designee to attend and participate in meetings of the Board of Natural Resources.  The designee shall be an individual holding the position of Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction.
