AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORTATION, FEBRUARY 24, 1988
BACKGROUND:
The original House Bill No. 1457 authorized special license plates for all firefighters in the state, numbering approximately 3,300, for an additional $15 to the usual registration fees. The substitute bill directs the Department of Licensing to establish standards to address the many requests for special license plates.
There are 13 types of specialized license plates administered by the department at a cost in excess of a half million dollars over the amount of the actual fees.
SUMMARY:
The department shall conduct a study of special license plates, defining costs and revenues attributed to special plates and establishing qualification standards for groups applying for special license plates. A report on the study shall be provided to the Legislative Transportation Committee by December 15, 1988.
SUMMARY OF PROPOSED SENATE AMENDMENT:
The Department of Licensing, in cooperation with the Washington National Guard, is directed to design a license plate that identifies the recipient as a member of the Washington National Guard.
Appropriation: none
Revenue: none
Fiscal Note: none requested
