AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS, MARCH 23, 1987

BACKGROUND:

Metropolitan park districts are authorized to be created in certain areas to finance and provide park and recreation improvements and services.  The Tacoma Metropolitan Park District is the only metropolitan park district in the state.

SUMMARY:

The treasurer of the county having the major portion of a metropolitan park district within its boundaries is its ex-officio treasurer.

However, the park board of a metropolitan park district may designate someone other than the county treasurer to act as the district treasurer, if the park board has received approval of the county treasurer to designate this person.  The board must purchase a bond from a surety company operating in the state sufficient to protect the district from loss.

Fiscal Note:      none requested
