AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION, FEBRUARY 1, 1988
BACKGROUND:
The annual Apple Cup football game between the University of Washington and Washington State University has received live television coverage only six years out of the past ten. As a result of this, thousands of football fans and taxpayers in Washington were unable to witness this popular annual event conducted by two of the state's largest taxpayer-supported entities. It is maintained that ensuring the live television coverage of the Apple Cup would be a fine display of appreciation, on the part of the universities to the people of Washington who have made many sacrifices on behalf of these two institutions.
SUMMARY:
The Senate and House of Representatives petition the president of the University of Washington, the president of Washington State University, and the governing boards of each institution to take such actions as are appropriate and possible to ensure that the annual Apple Cup game between the universities receives live television coverage. This Memorial is to be transmitted immediately to the presidents of the two universities and to the members of each university's governing board.
