Acknowledging the accomplishments of Senator Al Henry for the State of Washington.

House Committe on Transportation

                            AS OF FEBRUARY 19, 1987

BACKGROUND:

Senator Al Henry served forty years in the Washington State Legislature and gave his full support to improving our state highway, bridge and transportation systems.

The effort to rename the Wind River Bridge on SR 14 between Stevenson and White Salmon after former Senator Henry began in Skamania County when a number of citizens made their wishes known to Representatives Sutherland and Peery, and to Lieutenant Governor Cherberg.

The naming of bridges and highways is the prerogative of the Washington State Transportation Commission.  Commission officials have indicated that a legislative resolution supporting the renaming of the bridge is desired.

SUMMARY:

The Washington State Transportation Commission is directed to begin proceedings to change the name of the Wind River Bridge in Skamania County to the Senator Al Henry Bridge.
