BACKGROUND:

 

Currently, the order in which the names of candidates appear on sample and absentee primary ballots is determined by lot for all partisan and judicial candidates except candidates for district court judge positions.  The order in which these candidates appear on primary ballots is by rotation except for candidates for district court judge.  The order in which the names of candidates for district court judge positions appear on primary ballots is determined by the order of filing.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The positioning of district court judge candidates on sample and absentee primary ballots is by lot.  The order in which candidates for district court judge appear on primary ballots is by rotation.  These procedures are the same utilized for all candidates for partisan office, the office of Superintendent of Public Instruction and for all other judicial offices.
