BACKGROUND:

 

Currently, real estate appraisers who are employed by county assessors must meet certain qualifications and be certified by the State Department of Personnel.  No certification for private real estate appraisers is required.

 

SUMMARY:

 

New designations of "certified appraisal" and "certified real estate appraiser" are established and definitions are provided for each.  A certified real estate appraiser shall mean a member or candidate of a nationally recognized real estate appraisal organization that meets particular standards.

 

Certification is voluntary.  Anyone who illegally uses the designation of certified real estate appraiser is guilty of a misdemeanor.
