BACKGROUND:

 

The State of Washington has designated an official state seal, flag, tree, flower, bird, fish, gem, dance, and song.  The official state song is "Washington My Home," composed by Helen Davis.  During the 1985 and 1986 legislative sessions, there were efforts to adopt an official state folk song -- "Roll On Columbia, Roll On," with words and music by Woody Guthrie.  This effort continues.

 

SUMMARY:

 

"Roll On Columbia, Roll On," composed by Woody Guthrie, is designated as the official folk song of the State of Washington.
