      AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENTAL OPERATIONS, MARCH 4, 1987

 

BACKGROUND:

 

Most state and local government employees are currently entitled to 11 paid holidays per year.  They are:  New Year's Day, Martin Luther King, Jr.'s birthday, President's Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving Day and the day following, Christmas Day, and a personal holiday to be determined by the employee in consultation with his or her employer.

 

Two more holidays are advocated.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Christmas Eve and another personal holiday are established as legal holidays for state and local government employees.

 

 

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

 

Only one more holiday is established, an additional personal holiday to be determined by the employee in consultation with his or her employer.
