AS REPORTED BY COMMITTEE ON WAYS & MEANS, MARCH 9, 1987
BACKGROUND:
Employees of the state other than teaching and research faculty at state and regional universities and The Evergreen State College are entitled to accumulate sick leave. As an attendance incentive, these employees may accumulate sick leave at the rate of one day per month and receive remuneration in lieu of time off after a specified number of sick leave days are accumulated.
In January following any year a minimum of 60 days sick leave is accrued and each January thereafter, an employee may receive remuneration for unused sick leave from the previous year at a rate equal to one day's compensation for every four full days sick leave accrued. The same formula is used to compensate retiring employees and deceased employees' estates. Sick leave for which an employee has been compensated is deducted using the same ratio.
SUMMARY:
Employees accruing over 60 days sick leave from the previous year and each year thereafter may receive remuneration for unused sick leave at a rate equal to one day's compensation for every two full days sick leave accrued. The same formula is used to compensate retiring employees and deceased employees' estates.
Sick leave for which an employee has been compensated is deducted from accrued sick leave in the same ratio.
EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:
The ratio for converting sick leave to compensation under the attendance incentive program is changed to one day of compensation for three days accrued sick leave.
