                            AS OF FEBRUARY 2, 1987

BACKGROUND:

An attendance incentive program exists allowing certain state employees to exchange accrued sick leave for remuneration pursuant to a designated formula.  No program exists for the exchange of sick leave or vacation time as an attendance incentive.

SUMMARY:

Each January 1 any state employee who has 30 or more days accumulated unused sick leave may convert one day of unused sick leave to one day of vacation leave.  An employee with 60 or more days of accumulated sick leave may convert two days of unused sick leave to two days vacation leave.  An employee with 90 days accumulated sick leave may convert three days to vacation leave.

At retirement, an employee of the Public Employees Retirement System may choose to convert all or some of his or her accumulated unused sick leave to service credit.  This conversion is in lieu of remuneration which could be paid at retirement. The employer is required to apply funds which would be used for sick leave cash-out purposes to the retirement system for the period of service credit obtained under this subsection.

Obsolete language is stricken which allows community college districts to delay until July 1, 1981 payments to retired employees and deceased employees estates.
