BACKGROUND:

The Department of Fisheries currently prohibits commercial bottom trawling for bottomfish in several areas in Puget Sound.  Bottom trawling is prohibited primarily because of conflicts with the recreational fishery.

There is concern that commercial net fishing for bottomfish adversely impacts the recreational fishery in Puget Sound.

SUMMARY:

Commercial net fishing for bottomfish is prohibited in Hood Canal and Puget Sound south of Point-No-Point.
