BACKGROUND:

 

In 1986 the Legislature provided a restoration period for those members of the Public Employees' Retirement System, excluding elected officials, who had previously failed to restore their withdrawn employee contributions within the prescribed period.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Until June 30, 1987, a local government elected official who reentered service and failed to restore withdrawn contributions may restore these contributions, with interest, only for the period served as a nonelected official.  Local officials who retired between April 4, 1986 and June 30, 1987, may also restore such withdrawn contributions.

Effective Date:The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect immediately.
