                            AS OF FEBRUARY 2, 1987

BACKGROUND:

In 1985, the Legislature adopted a state energy code, which sets energy efficiency standards for new buildings.  This state energy code sets lower standards than those proposed in the Model Conservation Standards of the Northwest Power Planning Council.

The 1985 legislation provided for the University of Washington to test the construction components proposed in the Model Conservation Standards for performance and cost-effectiveness. The State Energy Office was directed to make recommendations on the cost-effectiveness of the state energy code by January 15, 1988.

SUMMARY:

The deadline for completing the study and report of the Model Conservation Standards is extended to January 15, 1989.
