BACKGROUND:

All employers in an individual's base year are charged for the unemployment compensation benefits paid to that individual.  Under current law, if an individual who works two part-time jobs simultaneously is laid off by one employer, the second employer is also charged, even though the individual continues working for the second employer.

SUMMARY:

An employer is not charged for unemployment benefit payments paid to a claimant with multiple employers, if the employer continues to employ the claimant for the same number of hours that the individual worked for that employer during the last quarter of the base year.

The noncharged benefits or payments in lieu of contributions are pooled.
