BACKGROUND:

 

Military service of up to five years is credited to a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) after completing 25 years of service.

 

Also, employees of the state and other public employees provide leave without pay for persons who attend training sessions for the National Guard or other military reserve units.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Each day of federal retirement credit earned by a member of PERS will be counted as one day of creditable military service.  National Guard members are excluded from the requirement of being a veteran for the application of such service to retirement.
