                            AS OF FEBRUARY 13, 1987

BACKGROUND:

When an indigent person is released from a state correctional facility, he or she is provided with suitable clothing, a $40 subsidy and up to $100 for transportation. As funding is available, the Department may instead provide $55 per week for up to six weeks.

The Department is requesting that the $55 per week subsidy provision be repealed because it has not been funded by the Legislature for the past 12 years.

SUMMARY:

The provision authorizing a $55 per week subsidy, subject to available funding, for persons released from state correctional facilities is repealed.
