BACKGROUND:
The Board of Medical Examiners is composed of six physicians and one public member appointed by the Governor. The Board was established for the general purposes of examining applicants for licensure, and for establishing continuing educational requirements for physicians and physician assistants. No licensed physician assistant currently sits as a member of the board.
SUMMARY:
A licensed physician assistant is added to the Board of Medical Examiners as a member who can vote only on matters related to the examination of physician assistants.
EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:
An individual registered by the state as a physician assistant is added as a member of the Board of Medical Examiners and may vote on matters related to physician assistants. The physician assistant member shall serve a term of five years.
