BACKGROUND:

 

Neuroleptic drugs have potentially dangerous side effects when administered to mentally ill or neurologically impaired patients.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Doctors are required to obtain a written statement from a patient stating that the patient has been informed about possible side effects, prior to prescribing neuroleptic drugs.  The Board of Pharmacy is directed to promulgate rules that require labeling of neuroleptic drugs with warnings of possible side effects.
