BACKGROUND:

The State Capitol Committee has a number of responsibilities with respect to approving construction projects and bond issues for state buildings on the capitol campus.  Administrative responsibility for managing such projects and maintaining the capitol buildings and grounds is assigned to the Department of General Administration.  It has been suggested that a special review committee be created to assist with designs and landscaping for state capitol facilities and grounds.

SUMMARY:

The Capitol Campus Design Advisory Committee is established as an advisory group to the Capitol Committee and the Director of General Administration to review plans of design and landscaping of state capitol facilities and grounds that will contribute to architectural, aesthetic, functional and environmental excellence for the capitol campus.

The Committee is composed of five members appointed by and serving at the pleasure of the Governor, including two architects, a landscape architect, an urban planner and a local community representative.  The Committee's responsibilities are to review plans for design, siting and grouping of state facilities on the capitol campus; to review the relationship of such plans to the comprehensive long-range plans of the cities of Olympia, Lacey and Tumwater; and to review overall landscaping plans.  Members are reimbursed for travel expenses under the statutes for mileage and subsistence.
