BACKGROUND:

 

The Teachers' Retirement System - Plan I (TRS I) allows a retired member to engage in substitute teaching duties for 75 days per year without penalty to their retirement benefits.  If the person exceeds this number of days, they are considered as having returned to service and their pension is terminated and the person may again become an active member of the system.  Under TRS II, retired members are prohibited from working in any nonfederal employer in the state.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The TRS I limitation of 75 days per year of substitute teaching without penalty to the retirement benefit is extended to 90 days.
