BACKGROUND:

 

The Legislature enacted new teacher certification requirements in 1987.  One provision eliminates the issuance of kindergarten through grade eight (K-8) certificates and provides for the issuance of preschool through grade six (P-6) certificates.  There is concern that eliminating K-8 certificates could have significant impact upon middle school programs.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Senate Bill 6161 was introduced by title only.

 

 

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

 

The statutory reference to P-6 certificates is amended to provide for preschool through grade eight certificates.
