BACKGROUND:

 

The Department of Fisheries prohibits the use of barbed hooks for saltwater recreational salmon fishing.

 

Public acceptance of the barbless hooks regulation has been mixed and many anglers choose to fish with barbed hooks because they feel that barbed hooks are more efficient than barbless hooks.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Department shall not prohibit the use of barbed hooks in the taking of or fishing for salmon.
