BACKGROUND:

 

The Director of the Department of General Administration along with the State Capitol Committee oversee the buildings, grounds and space needs of the Capitol Campus.  In June of 1987, the State Capitol Committee adopted a memorial policy for the campus.  One element of that policy was to discontinue the placement of memorial plaques in the Capitol Building.

 

It has been suggested that law enforcement officers, who are injured or die in the line of duty, should be honored by placing a memorial plaque in the Capitol Building.

 

SUMMARY:

 

A temporary legislative committee is established to design a plaque in honor of Washington State Patrolmen who have been injured or killed in the line of duty.  The committee will consist of the President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and the Chairmen and ranking minority members of the Transportation Committees of the House and Senate.  The committee will also determine where the plaque will be placed.  The expiration date for this committee is December 31, 1988.
