BACKGROUND:

The state and local governments provide for the awarding of compensated annual leave for their employees.  They also provide for up to two weeks a year for compensated military leave to complete any obligation of reservists, etc., for annual training with a branch of the armed forces of the United States.

SUMMARY:

Each agency or political subdivision of the state shall provide compensated leave to employees participating as athletes or unpaid officials at the United States trials for the Olympic Games or the Olympic Games themselves.

EFFECT OF PROPOSED SUBSTITUTE:

Thirty days leave is provided for the Winter and Summer Olympic Game trials and up to 30 days leave is provided for the Winter and Summer Olympic Games themselves.  The leave taken is to be designated "official representation" leave.
