AS PASSED SENATE, FEBRUARY 10, 1988

BACKGROUND:

In order to fish for steelhead an adult must possess a fishing license and a steelhead punch card.  At the present time a person under the age of 15 does not have to have a fishing license but does have to purchase a steelhead punch card for $15.  A fishing license allows the holder to fish throughout the state and the fee for this license is $14 for residents and $40 for nonresidents.  An additional steelhead punch card required by law costs $15.  Punch cards required by law expire April 30 following the date of issuance.  Each person who returns a steelhead punch card to an authorized license dealer by June 1 following the period for which it was issued shall be given a credit equal to $5 toward that day's purchase of any license, permit, transport tag, punch card or stamp required by law.

SUMMARY:

Persons under the age of 15 may purchase an annual steelhead punch card for $5.  The punch card will entitle the holder to retain no more than five steelhead and a new punch card may be purchased after retaining five steelhead.  The provision that a $5 credit be given toward the purchases of licenses, permits, tags, punch cards or stamps will not apply to the $5 juvenile steelhead punch card.
