BACKGROUND:

 

The U.S. National Guard is an integral segment of our national defense system.  The Army and Air National Guards are composed of over 9,000 Washington citizens who are dedicated, highly trained and ready to serve the state and nation.  They are friends and neighbors who give freely of their time to preserve and protect our state in times of emergency.  These civilians in uniform are important in preserving peace and keeping law and order.

 

SUMMARY:

 

A person who is currently a member of the National Guard and who has at least one year of service commitment remaining shall be eligible to apply for a special license plate.

 

The plate shall be issued upon payment of the regular license fee and furnishing proof to the Department of Licensing that the applicant is a member of the National Guard.  Only one motor vehicle owned by the applicant may be so licensed at one time.

 

Replacement plates shall be provided free of charge in the event that the plate is lost, stolen, or mutilated.  The plate shall remain with the recipient upon transfer or sale of the vehicle and may be used on another vehicle owned by the National Guard member.

 

The plate shall be returned to the department upon separation from service with the National Guard.
