                            AS OF JANUARY 25, 1988

BACKGROUND:

State and local agencies are prohibited from purchasing fuel not wholly mined or produced within the state.  The University of Washington has challenged this requirement with a purchase from Canada.

SUMMARY:

State and local agencies and institutions, including school districts, are directed to purchase fuel mined or produced in Washington unless the lowest price offered by an out-of-state fuel supplier is more than six percent under that available from an in-state fuel supplier.

Sections establishing the current purchase preference, penalties for violating the purchase preference, and a directive that governmental units purchase recycled paper products where economically feasible are all repealed.

Appropriation:    none

Revenue:    none
