BACKGROUND:

 

Concern has been raised about the sale of animals from animal shelters for the purpose of biomedical or other research.

 

SUMMARY:

 

Animal researchers may only purchase or receive animals for research purposes from people to breed and raise such animals on their own premises.

 

Violation is a class C felony.
