BACKGROUND:

 

The Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) was established in 1970 to ease permitting of major energy facilities and assure environmental protection. The EFSEC chairman is authorized to appoint an executive secretary, a confidential secretary, and other staff.

 

Due to the current power surplus in the Pacific Northwest and the trend away from large, centralized power plants, EFSEC has received no new proposals in the past few years and primarily monitors operations at WNP-2.

 

SUMMARY:

 

EFSEC is housed in the Washington State Energy Office. Except for chairman's confidential secretary, EFSEC staff is provided as necessary by the Energy Office.
