BACKGROUND:

 

Some use of snares to trap black bear has resulted in injury to the bear and to dogs that assist in the hunting of bear.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The use of snares to trap black bears and grizzly bears is prohibited.  The Department of Wildlife is authorized to develop rules to use traps, darts or any other means to take bears unharmed when moving them into a different geographic area.

Effective Date:The bill contains an emergency clause and takes effect immediately.
