BACKGROUND:

 

Since 1969 Paine Field in Snohomish County has been the site of an air fair.  Since that first gathering the fair has grown to become a major annual event.  A gubernatorial proclamation in 1974 declared the event as the official state air show.  The air show is the largest in the state of Washington and ranks among the largest on the west coast.  Attendance at the August weekend show in 1987 exceeded 60,000 people per day.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Legislature recognizes the importance of aviation to the history and economy of the state of Washington and designates the air fair at Paine Field each August as the official Washington State Air Fair.
