Senate Committee on Environment & Natural Resources
Senate Hearing Date(s):February 5, 1988

AS OF FEBRUARY 3, 1988
BACKGROUND:
The Director of Fisheries does not generally allow daylight fishing by non-Indian gill net fishermen who fish in Puget Sound.
Some gill net fishermen would prefer to fish during daylight hours rather than being restricted to night fishing only.
SUMMARY:
The director shall authorize commercial net fishing for salmon during daylight hours. The director shall allow at least 16 hours of gill net fishing per day unless there are conservation of allocation concerns. Gill net fishing days are to be alternated with purse seine fishing days.
