BACKGROUND:

 

There has been considerable growth in the number of bed and breakfast facilities in the state of Washington in recent years, as a component of the growth of the travel and tourist industry in the state.  There is currently no source of data on this industry, its development, or its significance for economic development in the state or on issues regarding the quality of life for state residents or visitors.

 

SUMMARY:

 

The Department of Trade and Economic Development undertakes a study of the bed and breakfast industry in the state.  The study encompasses the industry, its economic and environmental impact on the state.  Study findings shall be reported to the Legislature before June 1, 1988.  No appropriation is authorized to fund the study.

 

 

SUMMARY OF PROPOSED SENATE AMENDMENT:

 

The Senate Commerce and Labor Committee and the House Trade and Economic Development Committee replace the Department of Trade and Economic Development in undertaking the study.
