AN ACT Relating to warning lights on animals; adding a new section to chapter 46.61 RCW; and creating a new section.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 1.     The legislature finds that the presence of horses, mules, and ponies upon public highways and adjacent highway shoulders is an unreasonable hazard to the safety of the persons in charge of such animals and to the motoring public.  It is the purpose of this act to ensure the safety of such persons and the motoring public.

 

          NEW SECTION.  Sec. 2.  A new section is added to chapter 46.61 RCW to read as follows:

          It is unlawful for any person riding upon or in charge of any horse, mule, or pony on  any public highway or the adjacent shoulder, outside a city or town, to fail to have a red warning light or lamp visible from a distance of one thousand feet, directed toward the nearest approaching vehicular traffic at any time between sunset and sunrise or at any other time when due to weather or atmospheric conditions, head lamps and tail lamps are required to be lighted on motor vehicles.
