AN ACT Relating to school smoking areas; adding a new section to chapter 28A.58 RCW; and providing an effective date.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON:

NEW SECTION. Sec. 1.  A new section is added to chapter 28A.58 RCW to read as follows:

          In recognition of the significant health risk of smoking to students and staff and the importance of the example staff sets for students, no school district board of directors shall allow tobacco use by students or staff on school property.

NEW SECTION. Sec. 2.     To allow students and staff the opportunity to quit smoking or tobacco use, this bill shall take effect September 1, 1988.
